The sunflower is my favorite plant. Aside from its many uses (food, oil, etc.), it is a symbol of hope, peace, and nonviolence. I have a dedicated personal page on sunflowers. The link is in my list of links below.

A dream has finally come true.  After four years of hard work, the first of what will someday be thousands of the most trustworthy, educational portals on the Web, is about to launch. It will be free of corporate/commercial bias, and FREE to the public forever!

http://earthportal.org is the result of 650 of the world's top scientists in 49 countries (so far) coming together to produce the highest quality, non-commercial, non-profit resource for information about our planet anywhere in the World.

Please go there and enjoy the vision video announcing the official launch this Friday.

The portal will be previewed in a press conference in Washington DC at the Press Club beginning at 1 p.m. EST today featuring Jane Goodall (by video) , Robert Corell, and Ambassador Richard Benedick among others.

I recently joined Common Circle, which has as its tag line, "Redefine civilization, one action at a time".

We envision a world based on the 10 key green movement values: grassroots democracy, social justice, equal opportunity, ecological wisdom, non-violence, decentralization, community-based economics, economic justice, feminism and gender equity, respect for diversity, personal and global responsibility, future focus and sustainability.

Powered by a mix of solar/wind energy and pure love, Common Circle exists to help support the movement. Another world is possible. We must bring it about. It is up to us, and only up to us. Let us together redefine the world, one action at a time.

Last night someone claiming to be with the Tom Barberi Blog took photos of the Bush Chain Gang.
Where is that blog? I cannot find it just by searching. Well, actually I found this:

When I got on to my blog this morning I noticed all my customized features were gone. I"m not sure what is going on but I hope it is repaired soon.

In The Wasatch Front's post Questus Furore - Civility and Disagreement, I was disappointed to read:

When Utah did not erupt in spontaneous revulsion, the mayor [Rocky Anderson] took it upon himself to organize protests against the President's presence. (Unanswered and unexplored is the question of what city resources and employees were used to organize these protests. Seems like a job for some enterprising reporter out there. Too bad the local newspapers - the Salt Lake Tribune, the Deseret News - don't employ any.)

Here is my response to that statement:

I would like to clarify that Rocky Anderson did not organize any of the rallies in Salt Lake on August 30.

Kalyn Denny of Kalyn's Kitchen has a post on her Blogher Blog on Food Blogs Joining a Fast for Peace. The project encourages bloggers to either fast or engage in a virtual blog fast in a campaign designed to build pressure for withdrawing U.S. troops from the Iraq war.

Troops Home Fast is the name of the hunger strike by CodePink Women for Peace which initiated the campaign.
